Pivi, or “Platform for Immersive Video,” is a fully-functioning web tool designed for the Anderson Language and Technology Center at CU Boulder. It’s aim is to create a more interactive and engaging web-based environment for language learning classes at the university.

My role on this project was designing the user interface, graphics, and coding much of the front-end of the web app using React, Javascript, HTML, and CSS.

The main feature of Pivi its interactive video player. To aid in the language learning process, Pivi displays dual-language subtitles below videos, which can be clicked to show translations and definitions.

Pivi uses the Wiktionary API to source definitions, and uses user-uploaded subtitle files to display the video transcript, making it easy for instructors to upload their own videos for classes.

Various features such as an interactive transcript and automatically-produced flashcards make the learning process simple and engaging.

Pivi is intended as a tool to allow instructors to begin easily incorporating video into their curriculum for teaching languages at the University of Colorado Boulder.
